    LP Stiles Trio

Praise For Wallflower Feature Todd Pritchard was posted a short time ago with a promise that his main band would get a mention - here it is:

LP Stiles (Todd Pritchard - Guitar, Clay Stiles - Bass, Tom Leslie - Drums, Max Swan - Sax) is a 4-piece funk group based in and around Southern NJ.  Their repertoire consists of popular jazz and funk songs along with some incredibly intelligent original tracks that the band is on the verge of releasing to the masses.

LP's original tracks aren't quite what I'd call funk - I believe that label to be a product of the band's live performance - LP originals generally take my mind to mid-90s Bela Fleck while their most recent work has elements of recent electro-indie bands such as Boards of Canada.  So you may not be a fan of funk or jazz, but that isn't to say these kids can't do something for ya.

Pritchard, guitarist, handles most of the song writing: heavy with guitar melodies and his now infamous loop pedal which ornament the foursome's sound scape. Tom Leslie's love of reggae and dub allow from a drum style not reminiscent of any straight-funk music I've heard - With a tight, popped snare and a dry, fat kick, Tom makes you think your hearing Pat Metheny at a luau down in the Caymans.  Holding up the low end is Clay Stiles; his fingers are lightning and his ability to outline every chord Todd throws his away makes for interplay worth experiencing live.  And while I've not had the pleasure of hearing the Max Swan live, his sax playing on the originals is markedly well done.  So, despite what you might think about your own taste in music, I implore you to take a minute to check out what real musicians do when they get together; moreover, if you live near Rowan University, check out the band at Progressive Coffee House every Friday night at 7p.m.

THE SKINNY: LP Stiles are definitely a jazz/funk group that will appeal to fans of the genre, but five minutes at a house party and they'll have everyone in the room bobbin' their head.
    FAVORITE TRACK: New Day Bungalow
APPROPRIATE FOR: Dancing / Gazing / Shoe Shining / Hat Tipping
FOR FANS OF: John Mayer Trio, Stevie Wonder, Cinematic Orchestra, Bela Fleck
