It's that feeling you get when a song starts up with a lo-fi crackle then all of the sudden drops you into full spectrum stereo. That, coupled with finally being relieved of a frustrating morning with zero good band discoveries, put an easy smile on my face.
Their latest EP, "I Hold My Breath" (only 4 songs to my un-delight) is...well, beautiful. They're assumed single under the same name is incredibly polished and will, without a doubt, be stuck in my head until I have it removed surgically. The bulk of their set is intensely rhythmic and candidate for smartest pop I've ever heard - so if you're easily bored but can't handle Dillinger or Yes, than this is for you.
I haven't succumbed yet to Mac-App lure, so I guess I can't make use of the extremely reasonable $3.99 iTunes price tag that accompanies the EP but I have made excellent use of Artisan's Website and Music Page. They have older songs available for free download, some of which include live cuts and remixes from other musicians. The older stuff is similarly excellent so I highly recommend you visit their site and take full advantage.
There's really only one thing sour I can say about these guys: Really great name choice - I mean, it's fitting, easy to remember, and reminds me of one of my favorite styles of homemade bread, but it's title to about 15 other music groups around the world, ranging from metal to acapella. Oh well, no matter - pretty soon this will be the only Artisan worth talking about.
THE SKINNY: I can't believe the record quality and depth of music coming from this unsigned band.
