I have a habit of finding texturally similar artists to feature here, but what can I say? Certain things appeal to me while others don't, and Greenwood appeals to all my senses and musical tastes. I realize the boldness in that, but I'll explain.
Greenwood is successful because it explores Hardcore, Pop, Progressive, and Indie Rock (if such a genre exists.) and they pull off each of them with great command. "My Calling," one of their more popular tracks, showcases each of these talents as the band swerves in and out of delicately woven guitars, progressions of cleverly interlocked chords, vocals that never quite decide if they're pretty or forceful, and a whole mess of insatiably addictive melodies.
"The Kingdom," one of my favorites, is one of those songs I'll air drum to - you know the kind of song I'm talking about - simple enough to catch on, but different enough that your friends'll think you're the band's back up tour drummer. So, That's pretty much what sums up Greenwood: they're fun and intelligent. They appeal to all senses. Sometimes I need a sing along, and other times I need something more dynamic. They always deliver and are always right on time.
Want to download Greenwood's entire first EP, "The End of the Beginning" for free?
The band's got it up for download - enjoying it while I wait for their next release.
