Thanks to Matt Madurski for the heads up on this group. Band of Skulls is a relatively new, three-piece British alternative rock group from Southampton, England. All three members of the group (Russell Marsden, Emma Richardson and Matt Hayward) met in college and began playing under the name Fleeing New York in 2008. Shortly thereafter they changed their name to Band of Skulls and put out their debut record, Baby Darling Doll Face Honey. The record, which was released in March of 2009, has already gained a huge amount of buzz. Their single, "I Know What I Am," was even featured as an iTunes free Single of the Week around the time of the record's release.

The group claims that much of its success is due to the fact that all three members are experienced song writers, and I believe it. When you hear the talent and energy put into their record, you'll find yourself wondering how it was done by only three musicians. The same seems to be true for their rising popularity. For a group that met and began working together just over a year ago, it's incredible how far they've already come. Even if you're not necessarily a fan of the genre, their material is worth a listen.
