Her Space Holiday / XOXO, Panda

Marc Bianchi, of Her Space Holiday fame, has undeniably been a huge influence on my own personal musical development throughout the past five years or so. He has always managed to take on a very unique approach to each record he puts out. His latest, however, was by far the biggest stretch of them all. For those of you who are already familiar with Marc Bianchi's music, you know that he is well known for his electronic orchestrations and instrumentations through Her Space Holiday. A short while back, however, Marc created a new myspace page under the name XOXO, Panda, on which he slowly released a handful of tracks resembling nothing like traditional Her Space Holiday music. In fact, the only thing they probably share in common is Bianchi's unique (and often unflattering) voice. It certainly wasn't BAD new music - in fact I enjoy it just as much as his more traditional, electronic work. Surprisingly enough, however, all of this new music was recently released AS a Her Space Holiday Record with the title of "XOXO Panda and the New Kid Revival." Marc has now announced that the XOXO, Panda Myspace used during the creative process of the record will be taken down sometime later this month - just to clear up any confusion (he admits that he had even confused himself during all of this). Regardless of the confusion, I think it's an excellent record from start to finish. He's been getting a lot of mixed reviews due to the fact that it's so drastically different from his normal material, but nevertheless it's a beautifully crafted record full of lo-fi guitars, banjos, hand claps, clever lyrics and much much more. It will be interesting to see where Marc goes from here.

Below I've posted a video to the title track of the album - "The New Kid Revival" - as well as my personal favorite from the record - "The Boys and Girls"

THE SKINNY: Her Space Holiday's latest record - XOXO, Panda and the New Kid Revival - is a complete departure from their norm. But nonetheless, an excellent departure.
