Matt Koziol is no newcomer to the world of music. Before he ever entered a public school, he knew what he wanted to do with his life. A few years later, he picked up a guitar, got a few lessons, got thrown into the veritable gauntlet of an open-mic night and the rest is history.
While Matt's music isn't exceedingly complex or intricate, it's evident he writes and plays for one reason: because he loves to. His most recent work, Good Man Down, can be described as a feel-good, easy listening, smart record - one I've had the privilege of listening to a lot this week. And with influences ranging from Stevie Ray Vaughn to John Mayer to Tony Bennett, its easy to see why this young man has caught the attention of so many in central Jersey.

For me, it's easy to let music like Matt's enter one ear, and let it out the other. A lot of times, it's difficult to buckle down and listen to recordings that aren't exquisitely mixed and mastered because, lets face it, we're (I'm) lazy. Sometimes I find myself listening to the recording instead of the artist - I usually want to put on my headphones, scroll down to Underoath, and drown in their luscious layers until my ears have been sufficiently beaten into their primitive exoskeleton. But then, after the bandages and peroxide have been applied, I realize I'm still not satisfied; from here I head to my construction site of a laptop and browse through throngs of rubbish until its time to rewrap those bandages again, this time from content instead of volume. So, if your like me, and your constantly undergoing makeshift surgical operations to aid in your music listening, then take a load off and get to know Matt Koziol, the artist - he may not yet be ready for household name status, but goodness gracious, he's heading in the right direction. And, as Mr. Koziol puts it: "This...is a taste of what is to come."
