Melanie Valera, aka Tender Forever, is a French-American artist hailing from Bordeaux (FR) / Portland, Oregon. As a resident of the K Records family, she obviously brings a very unique and heart warming sound to the table. Her 2007 release - "Wider" - is nothing short of a synth-pop delite. I use the term synth-pop lightly, however, considering that many of her tracks hint countless other influences/genres. "Wider" proves to be a steadfast example of how Jimmy Tamborello & Ben Gibbard have changed the face of modern music since 2003. And Tender Forever does it oh-so-well. I've always been a sucker for a) female vocals, and b) simple yet elegant synth beats/melodies. Melanie Valera achieves both. She manages to deliver very distinguished/overlapping vocal melodies a la Tegan and Sara, on top of a very eclectic, yet subtle musical setting. She's living proof of how sometimes the subtle-est of tracks can be the most beautiful. Below is a stream of (one of) my favorite track(s) from the album, it's entitled "How Many":
She has also gained a lot of popularity covering pop songs via her ukulele. You can see what I mean right here, as she covers Justin Timberlake's "My Love":
THE SKINNY: Tender Forever is a unique, melodically elegant blend of awesomeness.
