Loma Prieta are a four-man hardcore outfit from San Francisco, CA. Hardcore is a loose label, it typically brings to my mind bands like The Bled, Refused, and Thrice, among others - that small list should be enough indication of how diverse a band can be while still fitting the hardcore bill; conversely, look at groups that qualify as alternative pop - they'd almost definitely sound like the Fray or Five for Fighting. In any case, Loma qualify on the vocal front as being relentlessly destructive, while their guiltars offer a more melodic approach than most bands you'd associate with brutality. Is this a running theme, or is it me? Innovation yields the greatest results; these guys can play, and they play like only themselves..
What's most appealing, aside from their uniqueness, is a sense of comradery that overwhelms each of Loma's tracks. You can easily envision their fans pumping fists alongside the group's unison yelling - they supply a vehicle for intensity so infectious that listeners on a global scale appreciate their work. May and June of 2008 gave Loma their first taste of a European Tour; along with being well received, the band went so far as to plan a second International tour in the near future. Seldom do you see a band like this, forging in stone their future with so many powerful, live performances and ambitious touring - the recipe for success is simple and difficult, but Loma Prieta are looking at a 4 Star Review.
Loma is a part of the Discos Huelga family of bands (Their most recent record was a collaborative release with Discos, RokLok Records, and React with Protest), who's brothers include Punch, Occam's Razor, and The Mall. Photo courtesy of Loma Prieta.
