Earlier this month, we received a band submission (via our submission page) for Your Sister's Canary. Having been a bit put off from their peculiar title and vague biography, my image of these guys was quickly turned around once I heard the tracks streaming on their myspace page. They label themselves as being blues, pop and jazz and I can certainly hear why. They seem to be capable of belting out some pretty catchy pop rock tunes, but the blues influence is definitely there, adding an extra powerful kick to each track.
As of this summer, they have recently recorded and released a "double-sided single" entitled Bread & Butter, which is available for purchase from the Snocap player on their myspace page. You can hear one of these singles, "Bread," streaming below. In addition to the new tracks, they seem to have a handful of their older tracks available for free download via their purevolume site. They also seem to have quite a few shows lined up in the New York/New Jersey area in the coming months, including a final round Battle of the Bands at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. So definitely look into that if you like what you hear, I'm sure they're deserving of the win.
