Stimulator are a band that initially baffled me. They've garnered success while maintaining an almost comical, glam-rock visage that I found off-putting, to start. Upon first listen of their most recent release, Stimulator 2, it was clear the band was offering something I couldn't appreciate to any real extent. Then, after a few repeat listens it was more apparent that the band had an original fun-oriented, comic-attitude and provided a very party-friendly vibe appropriate for both sober and drunken sing-alongs. The group lists "yacht-rock" as their main area of genre expertise and no description could be more spot on.

Stimulator's sound reminded me of (old) The Killers with female vocals - Pop melodies with a consistent beat and no complaints. If that's your flavor, I can't imagine why Stimulator wouldn't satisfy your hunger. Each song on the album is totally original and written entirely by lead singer Susan Hyatt (of Pillbox) and the rest of the band which consists of drummer, Chad Stewart (Faster Pussycat / Motochrist / Gilby Clarke), and bassist, Sean Tichenor (James Angell / King Black Acid) - compositions crafted by the actual band members in this genre of music is nearly unheard of - and that's something I can appreciate.

Stimulator have enjoyed success while touring with Duran, Duran, whom they're said to idolize. Also, Disney's Ella Enchanted includes a song by the band. Last, I love this Music Video for Holiday. The fake mustaches are killer.

THE SKINNY: Stimulator are a Pop group that actually operate as a band - Original, well-written songs on the theme of having fun, vacationing, and glamor. The retro thing might be a bit of a joke, but its clear that Stimulator take their music and careers very seriously.
