I think Nickelback are giving Canada's music scene a bad name (despite my recent post on Canadian natives, Moneen, whom I love) - Ivory Tree Observatory give me a nostalgic vibe for some reason, and though I can't promise it'll hit you the same way, I'm reminded of old Coheed and Thursday (you know, the glory days). I'm digging this, especially, because the band describes their sound as Various Denominations of Rock, and that sounds about right - I've had enough of this stagnent music scene and its consistent progression toward straight-up noise. Ivory Tree's sound is not corny, pleasantly well-produced, and full of ambient, dirty, powerful, and animated instrumental work.
The band has recently recorded their first full-length album, currently untitled and in post production. The musicianship on each track of their EP, "Pre-", is similar to that of both of Circa Survive's albums: the guitars sort of drone over top of a really fat bass and kick. ITO's vocals might not sport Anthony Green's sonic range (and who does?), but he achieves that eerie, soaring thing nevertheless, and his melodies are sincerely right up there with some of my favorites.
So, what else can I say about a band that's relatively new to the pool? Not much. I can tell you that I'm eagerly awaiting an email back from the band, hoping they can hook me up with some sort of hard copy of their EP and upcoming album, both of which you'll hear more about, here on PFW.

THE SKINNY: Epic and ambient rock in the vein of Coheed and Cambria - music with a dark, often gothic zing that manages to avoid hoky-ness and envelope the cool. This is one of those bands that gets me really excited.
