Deastro is the brainchild of Randolph Chabot, a 22-year-old from Detroit, Michigan. Deastro is Chabot’s alter ego, named after the G.I. Joe character “Destro.” He added the “a” in fear of copyright lawsuits. Chabot’s music centers around all things positive, whether his songs are inspired by weird dreams or his conscious imagination. One of the biggest influences in Chabot’s music is his upbringing. Part of a devout Christian family, he grew up in the church and sung in the choir until his late teens. Because of his intimate family life, Chabot is not only interested in creating music for art sake but to create a community, and bring people together. He's become well known in the Detroit music scene over the past few years for his eccentric live performances and personally drawn cover art. He is now signed to Ghostly International, which is not only a record label but an art company as well, supporting both musicians and visual artists.

Deastro has a unique sound because of Chabot’s many muses making it hard to categorize. It is obviously electronic, but each song has a lot going on. Chabot wrote about three albums worth of music in his parents’ basement when he was first getting started. His first full-length album, “Keepers," was released last year and is a compilation of the best of those songs. His second album “Moondagger” is set to release next month. Although the projected release is in June, it is already available to download on iTunes. Before “Moondagger,” Chabot recorded all his music solo, but on the new album he received help from his live band.

When you decide to shell out $9.99 for a new CD, you may only be interested in the music. But I like to know what my money is helping to support, and from what I have gathered from a few videos and interviews, Chabot seems like a genuine guy who has a real passion for what he puts out.
