    Daedelus

I can usually put at least (somewhat) of a "label" on the style/genre of the artists I've written about so far. Daedelus, however, is definitely an exception. Having put out music on labels such as Ninja Tune and Plug Research, and having been a member of the dublab team, it's safe to say that he's primarily electronic - "live electronics", to be more specific. He performs all of his stuff live on a sweet, square shaped midi-controller called a monome. In doing so, he is able to tweak songs while performing live, making it possible to respond much more easily to the crowd. I suggest you head over to his Myspace page and check out the video he's got up that explains the monome and shows some performance clips. Anyway, many of the tracks on his newest release, Love To Make Music To, are very beat-heavy, dance floor type jams, while others are more hip-hop, subdued, and all out strange. The record also features a lot of guests, as well as a throwback or two to the past. It is definitely interesting from start to finish, to say the least. The video below leans more towards the "dance floor" jam category, but not entirely. It's for his single, "Fair Weather Friends." Below that is one that falls into the hip-hop category, a song entitled "My Beau."

    "My Beau:"

THE SKINNY: Daedelus is a one part electronic, one part dance, one part hip-hop, and all parts unique artist
FAVORITE TRACK: "Fair Weather Friends" off of "Love To Make Music To"
APPROPRIATE FOR: Anyone willing to give something completely new a chance. You may not fall in love at first, but if you give it a chance it's bound to happen.
