Not only does the group Delft hail from central New Jersey (Woodbridge), but they're also a ridiculously talented indie-ambient rock band. This five piece outfit (consisting of Jay, Fish, Jeff, Matt, and Will) manages to blend indie-rock driven drum beats and bass lines with beautifully ambient, melodic vocals and dream-like guitar licks. Their sound isn't entirely unique, but it's difficult. What I mean by difficult is that it takes a lot of skill to put together tracks as complex and tight as they manage to do. The same can be said for performing live in a group such as Delft, and they've got that covered as well. I've had the privilege of seeing them live (albeit was over a year ago), and they are equally as solid in performance as they are on their records. Here is some proof:
To date, they've put out one full length record and two EPs. Their latest 3 song EP entitled "moose.indian", which is said to be "part of a larger litter of songs which are going to ultimately be up ending on a new full length," can be downloaded on this website for FREE. Below is my personal favorite, a track entitled "Sleep Through New Years" from their 2007 release "The Brain Is Wider Than The Sky."
